“ARE YOU AN NPC?”
Meme-history references trace an early 4chan thread using the phrase to July 2016, comparing human behavior to video-game non-player characters.
A background character found a new server. No quest. No hero arc. Just the same face, the same script, and BNB Chain.
An NPC follows the script. The internet gave the idea a grey face, two dot eyes and one expression. Now the background character has spawned on the yellow chain.
The meme began with a gaming metaphor: people acting like non-player characters, following predictable routines and repeating the same dialogue. Eventually that idea acquired one of the simplest faces on the internet.

In September 2018, the blank grey Wojak variation began circulating in NPC discussions and quickly became the visual shorthand for the concept.
The format works because almost nothing changes. One empty expression can be dropped into thousands of situations.

NPC MEME does not need complicated lore. The joke is repetition itself: charts, timelines, replies, routines and the same blank face appearing again.
The community supplies the situations. The NPC supplies the same face. Every repeated behavior becomes another panel in the loop.
Consistency is the feature. Do not redesign the thing people already recognize.
One format, many situations. Repetition turns a simple reaction into an identity.
The best NPC lines are whatever everyone is already saying today.
The character is intentionally simple. The project should understand the joke.

NPC MEME is a community meme project inspired by the classic NPC Wojak format. The contract address will be published when the instance is ready.
